Selling Your Art: Art and Craft Shows Part Two

Part Two: Take a Step

One of the larger art and craft shows in my area was selected as my first show.  This event also has food, music and a car show which added to the appeal of this event.  The organizers that I have had contact with seem to be on top of all the details. they have online registration, event details posted on their website and emails are responded to quickly.  This year will be their 29th year for this event which is another added benefit.

The photo below is a practice set up.  The tent, tables and a few pieces of art were used to simulate the actual event.  In my mind, I had a different vision of what the booth would look like.  Right away, I saw some things that I wanted to change.  The paint palette that I use as a sign with my business name, "Amaysing Art" is written in gold.  I discovered that unless you are standing right in front of it you cannot read it.  I used a black sharpie to outline the letters which helps but I may need to do something different later.  I believe that the use of a table cloth on the long table would make a better presentation.  Maybe I can find one before the show that will blend in with the overall theme.  The fabric that I used for the back wall works great.  I realized that the hooks I have are not very sturdy for that fabric wall and my art could fall off if there is much wind.  Another big one is that this art show will be outside and I think I will need to use weights to hold the tent down.  I also think that the table top display that I will be using will somehow need to be weighted down as well.  The good thing about setting up your booth early is that you have time to tweak your set up.
